Green glycol has caused the same issue with Fel Pro gaskets It has been found that green glycol in many 95's caused the same issue with factory gaskets.
How much could it pull though? Then if that same area had a leak that could pull oil in, why wouldn't coolant under 16psi of pressure push into the oil? It seems possible that when the system was cold the coolant passage could pull in some oil. This does assume a warm and running motor though. In the heads and valve cover area, even at the LIM gasket there is no pressure on the oil side of things, there is about 16psi of coolant pressure. So, I am thinking, LIM gaskets - this time aluminum.ĭoes this seem like the correct diagnosis? Am I missing anything?īill B, I would still have some concerns in your situation. Only "mixes with any" coolant in it since I got it. Aluminum frame LIM gaskets were not available at the time, so Fel-Pro nylon frame gaskets were installed. At that time, I replaced the head gaskets and the LIM gaskets. When I got this car a few years ago, I pulled the engine and removed the heads while replacing the main and rod bearings. Did not see any coolant in the oil, but will have it analyzed just to make sure. I just changed the oil the other day and took a sample. So, I figured the oil must be coming from the engine. The level in the trans was low-normal and the stick looked like this: So I checked the trans fluid for the presence of coolant.
It looks like motor oil, smells like motor oil, and feels like motor oil, but I thought maybe it is transmission fluid. When I opened it up and looked inside, here is what I saw: Finally got a chance to work on my own car the other day, and while changing out the long leaking valve cover gaskets, I noticed the coolant level in the expansion tank was about 2 inches lower than normal.
